BFA Guitars

For his Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis, Drake DenHartog built and modified these guitars for his final show. In the past century, the guitar has come to represent more than just the music it produces; it’s become a symbol of resistance to societal norms. The guitars in this body of work are no different. Each instrument reflects a different aspect of the current climate crisis in order to bring it to the forefront of public concern. Mass extinctions, vast forest fires, reliance on fossil fuels, light pollution, water crises, and overconsumption are all represented. The aesthetics as well as materials and methods used to make these guitars imply an aversion to tradition, signifying a resistance to the lack of current global environmental protection actions.
